Explanation / Answer

46) 5 / ( x+2) + 3/ (x-2) = 12 / (x+2) (x-2)

lcd on left side is (x+2) (x-2)

5 ( x - 2) + 3 (x+2) = 12

5x - 10 + 3x + 6 = 12

8x = 16

x = 2

x cannot be 2 as it will make the denominator 0

hence, equation has no solution

50) 6 / (x+3) - 5 / (x-2) = -20 / (x^2 + x- 6 )

factoring right side bottom

6 / (x+3) - 5 / (x-2) = -20 / (x + 3) (x - 2)

multiplying entire equation by (x+3) (x-2)

6 (x-2) - 5 (x+3) = -20

6x - 12 - 5x - 15 = -20

x = -3

x cannot be -3 as it will make the denominator 0

hence , equation has NO SOLUTION

86 ) 2 (x-6) = 3x + 2 ( 2x - 1)

2x - 12 = 3x + 4x - 2

2x - 3x - 4x = 10

-5x = 10

x = -2

x^2 - x = (-2)^2 - (-2)

= 4 + 2

= 6
