Weekly problems For the following scenario, identify each of the following: the null and alternative hypotheses, the degrees of freedom for groups and for error, the group sample sizes, the response variable, the factor, and the levels of the factor. A company wants to compare three different water treatment devices that can be attached to a kitchen faucet. From a list of potential customers, they select 225 households who will receive free samples. One-third of the households will receive one type of device, another third will receive the second device, and the remaining third will receive the third device. Each household is asked to rate the likelihood that they would buy this kind of device on a 5-point scale. Now complete the following ANOVA table for this scenario: Using the hot dog data set, determine if there is a difference in at least two of the mean/median amounts of calories in beef, meat and poultry-based hot dogs. (Use = 0.05) You will need to run the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality (with one exception, as stated in the problem) and determine if pooling the variances is reasonable. Run the appropriate hypothesis test to determine whether some of the group means/medians are significantly different. If you reject the null hypothesis, remember to run the appropriate test to determine which group means/medians are significantly different and which are not. As always, make sure that you state the null and alternative hypotheses, whether you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis, and your conclusion in terms of the application. Remember to submit the relevant output.|

Explanation / Answer

1.

a) Null Hypotheis : H0 : all three devices are same in selection or customer priority

Alternative hypothesis : H1 : all three devices are not same in selection or customer priority

b) The degreen of freedom for groups = 2 and for error = 222

c) The group sample sizes = 75

d) The response variable = Rating for the device for selection of 5- point scale.

e) The factor =water treatment devices

f) Levels of the factor = 3 differenct levels
