Question

The SPSS software simplifies the process of preparing frequency tables. It also makes it possible to recode existing data into new variables. For this exercise you will need to download the SPSS word association data titled "Chapter 4 Dealing with Data" found at the student website, www.sagepub. com/clowess. This data file was created from a word association exercise. Students viewed a word and were told to write down the first word that came to mind. A total of 85 students completed the word association exercise within the specified time limit, four seconds for each stimulus word. (Detailed step-by-step instructions for using the SPSS software are provided at the textbook student website.) Using SPSS, run a frequency count of all of the variables except the first variable, which is just the code number for each case. Based on the output, answer the following equations. The frequency command is located under the descriptive statistics menu button. For each of the 12 stimulus words from insurance through money, identify the top five responses with the frequency and valid percent for each. Identify the demographic profile of the sample by providing the frequency, percent, and valid percent for gender and race. How many individuals did not provide their gender or race? What is the mode for each of the 12 stimulus words from insurance through money? What is the median for student credit hours completed and age? Use the valid percentage values to create a column chart for each of the following variables. Graph only the top five responses. Be sure to provide a title for each graph and titles for the x-axis and y-axis. It is also helpful to place value above each of the bars so they can be read easily by managers. a. Fast-food restaurant b. Geico c. Soft drink

Explanation / Answer

You have not provided the data for calculating the various statistics like mean, median, mode etc.

Kindly provide the data necessary for solving.

I am providing a general answer regarding the definitions of such terms.

Mean of a data sample is equal to the sum of all the data values divided by the number of data values.

Median is equal to the central data point, when all the data points are arranged in ascending or descending order.

Mode is the data point which occurs the maximum number of times amongst all the data points.
