Question

survey says! The MoE helps us get a handle on sampling variability. Non-sampling variability is in many ways a lot tougher to tame. Answer the following questions. More information can be found at http://www.amstat.org/sections/srms/pamphlet.pdf Questions 1. Give a plausible example of a type of survey that might have substantial coverage error, and explain why. Note that coverage error results from not allowing all members of the survey population to have an equal or nonzero chance of being sampled. What can you do to limit coverage error? 2. Give a plausible example of what might cause non-response error. Note that non-response error results from not being able to interview people who would be eligible to take the survey. In your answer, say something about how you might be reassured that non-responses did not create any substantial error.

Explanation / Answer

1.

Coverage error which includes both undercoverage and overcoverage, is the error in an estimate that results from (1) failure to include all units belonging to the target population or failure to include specified units in the conduct of the survey (undercoverage), and

(2) inclusion of some units erroneously either because of a defective frame or because of inclusion of unspecified units or inclusion of specified units more than once in the actual survey (overcoverage).

Example :- In many country's election process excludes Women Voters.

Women voters there exclusively may not differ significantly in vote choice but might have big differences on attitudes toward their basic rights.

So What can you do to limit coverage error? If your sample frame excludes a large percentage of your target population, you need to think about how the people who are not covered might differ from those who are included in the sample frame.

Hope this will helpful. Thanks and God bless you:)
