Question
What 3 concepts are most important to remember about experimental design? Why, in your view, are these the most important things? Give examples with each of these to illustrate your points. How might you use information about design concepts to help you make future decisions? For example, when reading studies reported in newspapers or magazines, how will the nature of the study influence your decisions to either take action or change your behavior? Give an example of how changing the wording (but not meaning) of a question can influence the responses that you get. Provide both an "original" and "altered" question in your example, and explain why the change in wording you made would change the responses of those answering. What 3 concepts are most important to remember about the concept of measurement? Why, in your view, are these the most important things? Give examples with each of these to illustrate your points. What is a placebo? What is the difference between a placebo condition and a control condition, and why are placebo conditions important for experimental design?Explanation / Answer
5) As this is the most important conceptual question of all ,
Placebo medically means a medicine or procedure prescribed for the psychological benefit to the patient rather than for any physiological effect . The idea is to simulate a sense of actual medicine being given so that no other effect , aprt from the drug, are at play in the experiment
On the other hand control measurements are designed to minimise the effect of other variables other than the independent variable . This helps us in increasing the reliability of the results of the experiment so that we can compare this baseline measurements against the measurements of the experiment to check whether there is a actual difference between the experimental and control designs.
The main purpose is to isolate the effect of the other independent variables so that we can rule out any possible alternate explanations of the experimental results.
