A 15-VDC power supply is connected to a diode in series with a 7502 resistor. The I-V curve of the diode is shown in Figure 8.31. If the diode is forward biased, answer the following questions: (a) How much current is flowing through the diode? (b) What is the voltage drop at the diode? (c) How much power is dissipated by the resistor? (d) How much power is dissipated by the diode? l (mA) 30 20 10 5 10 15 20 V Figure 8.31 Diode curve for Problem 4.Explanation / Answer
Resistance of diode=1/(0.03/(20-2.5)=583.3 ohm
So current =15/(583.3+750)=11.2 mA
Voltage drop=11.2*583.3/1000=6.56 V
Power dissipated by R =I*I*750=0.094 J
By diode=I*I*583.3=0.073 J
