Figure 25.4 gives JMP output for the two-way table in Exercise 25.2. elu GAMING Exercise 25.2. EGMNG (a) Verify from the output that the data meet the cell count requirement for use of chi-square. What are the chi-square statistic and its P-value? Explain in simple language what it means to reject Ho in this setting (b) ) What are the chi-square statistic and its P-value? Explain in simple (c) Give an overall conclusion that refers to row percents to describe the nature of the relationship between playing video games and grades.

Explanation / Answer

(a) The expected frequency of each cell in the contingency table should be atleast 5. Since the minimum expected value is 64.7771, the cell count requirement for the chi-square test are met.

(b) The chi-square statistic is 6.739 here. The corresponding P-value is 0.0344.Since the P-value is very small we reject the null hypothesis which in this case means we reject the hypotheses that the boys who have played have the same grades as those who haven't played vidoe games.

(c) Looking at the row percents it can be said that those who played games have achieved A and B grades more than thosee who didn't. Thus in all it cocludes that playing video game results in better grades.
