Question
How important is GPA in determining the starting salary of recent nursing school graduates? Does graduating from a nursing school increase the starting salary? The director of Undergraduate studies at a major university wanted to study these questions, gathered the following sample information on 12 graduates last spring to investigate these questions. The salary is reported in S000. GPA on the traditional 4-poim scale 1, in the Nursing variable Do you see my problems with the multicollinearity? Explain. Determine the regression equation (s) and discuss. How much does graduating nursing school add to a starting salary? What starting salary would you estimate student with a GPA of 3.00 who graduated from a nursing school? What is the value of R^2? How can we interpret it? Is it (model) significant? You state the null and alternative hypotheses. Use alpha = 0.05 and the F-stati approach. Would you consider deleting either of the independent variables? Explain.M state the null and alternative hypothese. Use alpha = 0.05 and the p-value approach What would be your answer to the two questions raised by the director of the Undergraduate studies? Justify it.Explanation / Answer
a) There is no problem of multicollinearity because in the dependent variable only GPA is continous variable.
b) The regression equation is
Salary = 24.5 + 2.42 GPA + 1.55 Nursing
Tests of Between-Subjects Effects
Dependent Variable:Salary

Corrected Total 20.310 11
a. R Squared = .883 (Adjusted R Squared = .858)
Comment. GPA is significant at 20% sigificant level and Nursing is significant at 5% significant level.
The salary of graduation from a nursing school add 1.55 to starting salary than other.
The starting salary of a student who graduated from a nursing school with GPA 3 is
Salary = 24.5 + 2.42 *3 + 1.55
=33.31
that is her starting salary is $33310.
c) R^2 value is the percentage of expalation of dependent variable by the independent variables. For this problem the R-Sq = 88.3%, i.e., 88.30% of the information of salary is explained by GPA and nursing. The calculated p-value of F for together information of GPA and Nursing is 0.0000. Hence, we can accept the alternative hypothesis. But, separately GPA is not significant at 0.05 level of significant.
d) Yes, I am cosider deleting GPA variable from the analysis. Because, it is not significant at 0.05 level of significant.
Null Hypothesis: The slope of GPA is equal to zero.
Alternative hypothesis: The slope of GPA is not equal to zero.
e) Ans:
1) Ans : The GPA is not effected to the starting salary of nurse at 0.05 level of significance.
2) Ans: Graduating from nursing school can get more salary at the starting than other nurse at 0.05 level of significance.
