Question
Real-time scheduling with robots. Researchers at Purdue University compared human real-time scheduling in a processing environment to an automated approach that utilizes computerized robots and sensing devices (IEEE Transactions, Mar. 1993). The experiment consisted of eight simulated scheduling problems. Each task was performed by a human scheduler and by the automated system. Performance was measured by the throughput rate, defined as the number of good jobs produced weighted by product quality. The resulting throughput rates are shown in the accompanying table. Analyze the data using a test of hypothesis. Yih, Y., Liang, T., and Moskowitz, H. 'Robot scheduling in a circuit board production line: A hybrid OR/ANN approach." IEEE Transactions, Vol. 25, No. 2, March 1993, p. 31 (Table 1).Explanation / Answer
Z Test For Significance of Difference of Means
Set Up Hypothesis
Null Hypothesis ,there Is No-Significance between them Ho: u1 = u2
Alternate Hypothesis , there Is Significance between them H1: u1 != u2
Test Statistic
X(Mean)=210.8875
Standard Deviation(s.d1)=43.2006
Number(n1)=8
Y(Mean)=243.45
Standard Deviation(s.d2)=47.1045
Number(n2)=8
we use Test Statistic (Z) = (X-Y)/Sqrt(s.d1^2/n1)+(s.d2^2/n2)
Zo=210.8875-243.45/Sqrt((1866.29184/8)+(2218.83392/8))
Zo =-1.44
| Zo | =1.44
Critical Value
The Value of |Z | at LOS 0.05% is 1.96
We got |Zo | =1.441 & | Z | =1.96
Make Decision
Hence Value of | Zo | < | Z | and Here we Do not Reject Ho
P-Value: Two Tailed ( double the one tail ) - Ha : ( P != -1.44 ) = 0.14959
Hence Value of P0.05 < 0.14959,Here We Do not Reject Ho
