Question

(a) Write a sentence or two to interpret the scatterplot: describe the overall form of the relationship, the direction of the relationship, approximate strength, and comment if any outliers.

(b) Provide the equation of the least squares regression line from the R output for predicting yards from attempts using the form: predicted yards = ____ + ____(attempts).

Explanation / Answer

A) From the overall scatter plot it's pretty clear that there is linear relationship in the data. and regarding direction we can clearly see that the slope of the line is positive i.e there is a increasing relationship between yards and attempts. and the points in the scatter plot are not also too much dispered from the regression line which actually strengthen the linear relationship. The farthest two point in the scatter plot may be outlier as these two point lie really outside the concentration zone.

B)The predicted regression equation is given by

predicted yards= 13.5242 + 4.0957 (attempts)
