Question

The concept of slope is one of the most important to understand in mathematics, and one of the most commonly misunderstood.  Some of the misconceptions stem from its name, slope, which leads many to think of slope as steepness and a focus on graphing by rise over run. However, the real power of slope, and the path to truly mastering the concept, is by understanding slope as a rate of change. While rate of change does apply to how steep something is and how far up it rises as compared to how long it runs, the concept extends much further than that. Rate of change is literally a rate comparing the change in one variable to the change in another.

Find another rate of change that is either in common use or found in an article or news report

Discuss what it means as a rate of change

Discuss whether or not the concept of steepness would help someone to understand your example better or confuse the issue

As soon as you identify the rate of change you wish to discuss:

Create an original posting titled with your rate of change, as in this example: OR: Dollars per acre

Explanation / Answer

lets consider the displacement (S) of a particle during time(t).

Suppose that The particle is in Uniform motion. That is it cover equal distance in equal interval of time.

The the graph of the displacement with time is a straight line passing through origine.

The slope of this line represents the velocity(V) of a particle.

That is Velocity is the rate of change of displacement with time.

Hence the slope is the rate measure.
