7. If two students are randomly selected without replacement, what is the probability that both earned a C?
8. Are the events “Earned a C or better on the test” and “Completed both quizzes” independent or dependent? You must justify your answer mathematically.
9. Are the events “Earned an A on the test” and “Missed at least one quiz” mutually exclusive? Justify your answer using the table.
10.What is the probability that a randomly selected student earned a D/F OR missed at least one quiz?
Explanation / Answer
1. Assuming that there are six categories A,B,C,D,E,F in the test. then probability of getting A is 1/6.
2. Probabilty that a student complete one quiz is 1/2. So the probability of completing both the quizzes is (1/2)*(1/2)=1/4.
3. Probablity that a randomly selected student earned C or better is = getting C or B or A= 3/6= 1/2
4. Probability of miising atleast one quizzes = missing one quiz or missing both the quizzes = (1- completed both the quizzes) 1-1/4 =3/4 and as earning anything in test is independent event so the probabality of miising atleast one quizzes and earning A is 3/4 * 1/6 = 1/8
5. Earning D or F is with Probabality = 2/6 = 1/3. So the required Probability = 1/3 *1/4=1/12
6. Do the remaning of your own.
