Question

Question: (1) Structure the argument into premise and conclusion. (2) Determine if the argument is based on deductive or inductive reasoning.

1. Because the United States and the Soviet Union have not been able to agree for the past forty years on how to significantly reduce their nuclear arsenals, it is unlikely that they will be able to do so in the near future.

2. All Republicans support the president’s Supreme Court nominee, and John Eless supports the President’s Supreme Court nominee. Hence, there is no doubt that John Eless must be a Republican.

3. My family has bought Chrysler cars since the first ones were made. These cars have always been reliable. Thus, U.S.-manufactured cars are better than Japanese-manufactured cars.

4. Most modern presidents of the United States have been rich. Therefore, the winner of the presidential election in the year 2020 will probably be rich.

5. Iraq’s acceptance of the United Nations agreement is a necessary condition for a cease-fire. A cease-fire is necessary to stop the bombing of Iraqi cities. So, unless Iraq accepts the United Nations agreement, the bombing will continue.

Explanation / Answer

1) premise- the US and Soviet Union have not been able to agree for the past 40 years on how to reduse the nuclear arsenàls

Conclusion- us and Soviet union cannot reduce their nuclear arsenal in the near future

This is based on INDUCTIVE REASONING.

2) This statement is logically wrong.

And

Chrysler cars were always reliable

Conclusion- Us made cars are better than Japanese made cars

This is based on inductive reasoning

4) premise- Most modern Presidents of the us were rich

Conclusion- the winner of the 2020 presidential election will be rich

INDUCTIVE REASONING

5) Premises- Iraq's acceptance of un agreement is necessary for a ceasefire.

A ceasefire is necessary to stop bombing of iraqi cities

And

Iraq donot accept the un agreement

Conclusion- bombing of iraq will continue.
