Question
A network security specialist records the number of incoming e-mails containing links that six randomly-selected network users receive in a day. Numbers are 73, 76, 88, 113, 73, and 105. (a) State the mode (if one exists). (b) Find the median. Show work/explanation. (c) Determine the sample mean. Show work (d) Using the sample mean found in part (c), and given that the sample standard deviation of the data set above is 17.4, what percentage of the data set falls within one standard deviation of the mean? Show work/explanation. A. 34.2% B. 83.3 % C. 66.7% D. 68.3%Explanation / Answer
ANS: a-) mode is 73 as it occurs twice.
b-) for median arrange the data in increasing order here, 73 73 76 88 105 113. As the total elements in data set are even we take the average of 2 middlemost numbers which are 76 and 88 here and their average ia 82.
c-) mean here is (73+73+76+88+105+113)/6 = 528/6 = 88 .
d-) for deviation 17.4 we have the range from 88-17.4 to 88+ 17.4 that is 70.6 to 105.4 .
the elements of data set which lie in this range are 73,73,76,88,105 which is 5 out of total 6 elements.
So , it's (5/6)*100 = 83.33% .
