let speed of the freight train be x => speed of the passenger train = x+14 Time taken by passenger train to travel 260 miles = 260 / (x+14) Time taken by freight train to travel 190 miles = 190 / x Acc. to the question, these times are same => 260 / (x+14) = 190 / x => 260x = 190(x+14) => 260x-190x = 190*14 => 70x = 190*14 => x = 19*2 =38 mph Therefore speed of freight train is 38mph and that of passenger train is 52 mph
