Question
the layout of a little league field is a square, 60 ft on a side. how far is it directly from home plate to second base(the diagonal of the square)?dan recieves $375 per week for sellign new and used cars at a car dealership in oak lawn, il. in addition, he recieves 5% of the profit on any sales that he generates. write an equation that relates Dan's weekley salary S when he has sales that generate a profit of x dollars
the fixed costs of operating a business are the cost incurred regardless of the level of production. fixed costs include rent, fixed salaries, and costs of buying machinery. the variable costs of operating are the costs that change with the level output. variable costs include raw materials, hourly wages, and electricity. Suppose that a manufacturer of jeans has fixed costs of $500 and varible costs of $8 fpr each pair of jeans manufactured. write the linear equation that relates to the cost C , in dollars, of manufacturing the jeans to the number x of pairs of jeans manufactured. what is the cost of manufacturing 400 pairs of jeans? 740 pairs?
Explanation / Answer
Question 1
Given info: Square with 60ft sides
We need to use the pathagram theorm (a2+b2=c2) since we cut the square into two right triangles
So 602+602=c2
Solve for c 7200=c
We get 84.85ft=c
Question 2
Given info: Weekly payment is $375 plus 5% on any sales
We need to set up the equation so that we can account for any amount of sales possible this means that the amount of sales he makes each week will be the valuble we will call x
So S= 375+.05x
We use .05 instead of 5% beacuse you cannot enter a percent into an equation you have to enter a real number so you divide the percent by 100 and get .05. You multiply .05 by x because it lets any amount of sales he makes be multiplied by the precent he makes and in the end adds that to his constant weekly salary of $375.
Question 3
Given info: fixed costs are $500 and it costs 8 extra dollars to produce each pair of jeans
number of jeans are 400 and 740
Just like in question 2 we need to set up the number of jeans as our valible x
So C=500+8x
The reasoning behind the equation is the same as in question 2 except you don't have a percent you have a real number so I'll leave the reasioning to you.
As for the rest of the question all you have to do is put the number of jeans in for x and solve for C
So C=500+8(400)
C=500+3200
C=$3700
And C=500+8(740)
C=500+5920
C=$6420
