Question

Find and sketch the least squares linear approximation for the given points: {(-2,1),(-1,1),(0,-2),(1,-3),(2,-8)}

Explanation / Answer

Is this statistics? for this you can easily do it on your calculator.. graphing calculator. go to stats --> edit --> and then plug in the x coordinates for L1 and y coordinates for L2. then go to stats --> calc --> 8.LinReg (a + bx) Press than and enter 2nd 1, 2nd 2, and then go to Vars, YVars, Function, and then y1. that would give you on the screen: y= a+bx a=-2.2 b= -2.2 r^2= .8832 r=-.939 soo you can just plug these in in the equation a + bx. which would equal y= -2.2 + -2.2x and then plug in numbers for the x's and plot points!
