Question
The questions asks to "simplify the expression." However all other notes do not tell anything at all about how to do the problem and the answer I get is completely different than what the back of the book says. 2x^2 + 7x + 3 __________ 2x^2 - 7x - 4 The answer they give is x + 3 ____ x - 4 how would I go about getting this answer and other answers like this in the future? (the 2x^2 is 2x raised to the 2nd but this will not let me keep the exponent on the number) The questions asks to "simplify the expression." (Ex+F)(Gx+X) Then the hope is that Ax+B will equal one of the terms on the bottom, making them cancel out.Factoring the top term first: 2x^2+7x+3 = (2x + 1)(x + 3)
Then the bottom term 2x^2-7x-4 = (2x + 1)(x - 4)
Then the 2x + 1 terms cancel out and you get your answer of (x+3) (x-4)
2x^2-7x-4 = (2x + 1)(x - 4)
Then the 2x + 1 terms cancel out and you get your answer of (x+3) (x-4)
