Solution
For the ease in representation and explanation, let X, Y and T represent Cumulative percentage Change in Mass, Concentration of Glycerol Solution (M) and Time.
Concept Back-up
There are 3 variables as defined above, wherein X depends on Y and T. Y is at 5 levels, T is at 7 levels and hence X takes 35 values.
All three variables are quantifiable and quantification is by measurement. Hence, all are quantitative continuous variables.
Now to work out the solution,
Based on the above, answers for the questions would be:
B1. X
B2. Y and T
B3. Yes
B4. Yes
B5. Line Graph, or more precisely, Multiple Line Graph, as explained below.
B6
There are 3 variables and hence all three cannot be accommodated in a two-dimensional graph. So, the 35 values are grouped into 5 sets, each set representing the seven X-T combination values for a particular level of Y.
For each set, a line graph is drawn with T along the horizontal axis (x-axis) and X along the vertical axis (y-axis).
All the five line graphs are drawn on the graph with common x-scale and y-scale to form a multiple line graph.
How to draw the graphs
Scale T values along x-axis from 0 to 60 minutes in equal space and X values along y-axis from 0 to 20, again equi-spaced.
Draw a line graph for Y = 0 plotting the points: (0, 0), (10, 0), (20, 2.9), (30, 1.45), (40, 2.4), (50, 2.9) and (60, 4.35).
Similarly, draw the graphs for Y = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 1 on the same graph.
Label the graphs with the respective y-levels.
