Question
Ziziphus mauritiana, also known as Chinese date, ber, Chinee apple, jujube, Indian plum, Regi pandu, and Indian jujube is a tropical fruit tree species belonging to the family Rhamnaceae. Some of its fruits are sweet and some are bitter (which we assume to be independent of one another); it is very difficult to tell without tasting. The probability of sweet is pp and the probability of bitter is 1p1-p. A forest dweller eats a very large sequence of fruits. What is the expected number of sweet ones the forest dweller will get before he/she has gotten three bitter ones for p=34

What is the expected number of sweet ones the forest dweller will get before he/she has gotten three bitter ones for p 4Explanation / Answer
Here we have to model this problem using NEGATIVE BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION with parametres r = 3 and 1-p = 1-3/4=1/4=q (let). Where r is denoting the number of bitter fruits. Let X be a random variable which follows negative binomial with parametres r = 3 and q=1-p = 1-3/4=1/4, where X is denoting the number of sweet fruits got till 3rd bitter fruit. X can take value 0,1,2,3,..... .
We know, E(x) = r(1-q)/q = 3(1-1/4)/(1/4) =9
So, he/she will get on an average 9 sweet fruit before the 3rd bitter fruit.
