For each problem in this set, all you have to do is set up the transition matrix or transition diagram. The first few are straightforward, with obvious states and treatment of time. As they become progressively more difficult, you will have to think carefully about state and time definitions. In the next chapter. you will be asked to calculate some things using those matrices, so you might wan to start each problem on a new page and leave room for further work. Also, some of them will be further extended in Chapter 4. Answers for odd-numbered problems are given in the back of the book, but you cannot beneit from looking before you have made a serious attempt on your own
