For example, smoking can cause lung cancer, so smoking rate may be a confounding variable in this study—especially because the smoking rate in Hong Kong is much higher than the smoking rate in Colorado. As a result, we cannot draw any conclusions about radon and lung cancer without taking the smoking rate into account (and perhaps other variables as well).
b)The variables of interest are the diet program(an explanatory variable in this case) and weight loss(a response variable).However, only the diet program is not the only possible cause of weight loss of the participants or diet product is not responsible only for weight loss for the participants.For example, daily exercise routine can also help participants lost their weight.so daily exercise routine may be a confounding variable in this study.As a result, we cannot draw any conclusion about new diet program and weight loss of the participants without taking the daily exercise routine into account.
