Question

Previous Problem ListNext (1 point The amount ot time it takes for a student to complete a statistics quiz is uniformly distributed (or, given by a random variable that is uniformly distributed) between 35 and 65 minutes. One student is selected at random. Find the probability of the following events. A. The student requires more than 60 minutes to complete the quiz Probabity B. The student completes the quiz in a time between 41 and 46 minutes Probability C. The student completes the quiz in exactly 41.55 minutes. Probability

Explanation / Answer

Answer to the question is as follows:

This is a uniform distribution

A. P(X<a) = x-a/b-a, where a and b are lower and upper limits

P(X>60) = 1- P(X<60) = 1- ( 60-35)/(65-35) = .1667

B. P( 41<X<46) = (46-41)/(65-35) = 0.1667

C. P( X=41.55) = b-a/b-a = 41.55-41.55 /(65-35) = 0
Answer is 0
We can see it some other way:The distribution between 35 and 65 can be broken
into infinite points, which mean each point has almost probability.
41.55 is just one of these points, and therefore, P(X=41.55) = 0
