Question
2. (5.06) Figure 4.8, below, displays the relationship between golfers' scores on the first and second rounds of the 2013 Masters Tournament. 85 80 70 65 65 70 80 85 First-round score The correlation is r-0.246. Exercise 4.30 (page 115) gives data on solar radiation (SRD) and concentration of dimethylsulfide (DMS) over a region of the Mediterranean. SRD 1255 12.91 14.34 19.72 21.52 2241 3765 48.41 DMS 0.796 0692 1744 1.062 0682 1517 0.736 0720 SRD 7441 94.14 109.38 157.79 262.67 26896 289.23 DMS 1.820 1099 2692 5.134 8038 7.280 8.872 The correlation is r-0.969. Start: 6:41 PM 3Explanation / Answer
R ^2 represent the model adequacy in the two regression model
for first regression model Of golfer score on first and second round r = 0.246
Therefor r^2 = 0.06051
for second model of correlelation between SDR and DMS is 0.969
therfore r^2 = 0.9389
Bigger r^2 model is more accurate than any other model.
So here for model second r^2 is bigger than first model.
Therfore our option is 2) is correct.
The fraction of variation in the observed values of y is explained by least square regression of y on x is given by r^2.
The higher this fraction more likely is prediction accurate.
