As the climate and environment changed, so did the types of organisms that developed. Describe the conditions on Earth that made life possible for different types of organisms. Think about geologic and evolutionary time scales in terms of how long it took for different organisms to development and become successful. Relate the history of life on Eartlh to how the climate and environment is changing today, especially in terms of rate of change.Explanation / Answer
The origin of earth is around 4.5 billion years ago. The origin of life started in earth was from a DNA-based microbes that lived more than 3.5 billion years ago. That means all the organisms are evolved from a single ancesstor. The earth formation was under so much heat and pressure which made the earth into a molten planet . During that time period the earth atmospheres was consisited of water vapor (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen gas (N2). The earth started cooling down and became planet with atmosphere and an ocean. This time period was called Haden period. There was no life at that time point.
Life started originating at the time period called Archean period. The first life orginated was prokaryote during that period. That time the atmosphere was composed mainly of green house gases. It is entirely different from todays atmosphere which contains only about 0.03% CO2. The reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere is due to living organisms. Most of carbon exists today in the form of minerals.
The next period in the origin of life was called as Proterozoic. More complex life form eukaryote, including some forms of multicellular organisms originated during this time period. Oxygen was produced by bacteria started making the current of Earth's atmospheres. Earlier forms of fungi form around this time. Then earlier forms of plants and animals were formed around the time. That time the planet suffered below-zero temperatures and was called Snowball Earth.
The final stage of life origin which still continues is called Phanerozoic. During this time the Complex life, including vertebrates, begin to dominate the Earth’s ocean. Pangaea the super continent formed and dissolved into Laurasia and Gondwana during this time. Life started expanding and gradually statred shifting to land and then all different forms of plants, animals and fungi begin appearing, including annelids, insects and reptiles. Modern animals—including humans—evolved at the latest phases of this time period. Before that several forms of animals includings dinosaurs formed and extincted from earth.
If you go through the history of earth, the climate was changing through out the time scale. The concentration of CO2 and other green house gases were increasing day by day and causes global warming in alarming rate. Oceans are warming, sea level is rising and glaciers are shrinking more faster than before. The snow cover which taken years to form in the northern hemisphere is decreasing fast. This is fast compared to the early time changes in earth. This is due to the advanced form life in earth called “the humans”. We have to find out measures to keep the earth as livable.
