Question

The Dean of your school of Social Work has asked you to organize and present data from a one-question (one-variable) survey to determine student satisfaction in the social work program. There are 220 student in the program; 55 of them (25%) were randomly selected to receive the survey. The research question was, "How satisfied are you with the social work education you are currently receiving?" Possible responses were:

(1) Very Satisfied

(2) Satisfied

(3) Somewhat satisfied

(4) Somewhat dissatisfied

(5) Very dissatisfied

The results were1 1 4 3 5 4 3 2 2 2 1 2 4 4 5 2 5 1 4 1 2 2 5 3 1 4 1 5 2 4 3 3 4 2 3 1 3 1 3 2 3 2 4 3 5 2 4 2 3 1 3 1 2 3 2

At what level of measurement is the variable satisfaction? Justify your answer.

a. The level of measurement of the variable satisfaction is Ordinal. There are many different examples of what could be measured at an ordinal level. Some examples are degree level, rating of change, ratings of treatment, and satisfaction (Weinbach &Grinnell, 2015).

Is the variable an independent or dependent variable. Justify you response.

This would be the dependent variable. The test of satisfaction is the one that is influenced by the social work education they are receiving      (which would be the independent variable).

C. The raw date for the variable were as follows:

1 1 4 3 5 4 3 2 2 2 1 2 4 4 5 2 5 1 4 1 2 2 5 3 1 4 1 5 2 4 3 3 4 2 3 1 3 1 3 2 3 2 4 3 5 2 4 2 3 1 3 1 2 3 2

How many students completed the survey? Should these student be considered a research sample or a population? Why?

55 students completed the survey. These students should be considered a research sample because, they were chosen randomly and can represent the school as a whole this way. They are only a sample of the population so they should be considered a research sample.
