In your assigned readings, you learned about different theories for the evolution of eukaryotic cells from prokaryotic organisms.
Describe the hypothesized steps for the evolution of eukaryotic cells via endosymbiosis.
How is evidence used to support this theory? Explain your position.

Explanation / Answer
Mitochondria and plastids are the common eukaryotic cell that has evolved by endosymbiosis from bacteria. The main theory of endosymbiosis is bringing the cells inside another since the meaning of the greek symbiosis word is living and together. When the mitosing cells originated, mitochondria arise as basal bodies if flagella and photosynthetic plastids arise from free living cells. Eukaryotic cells have evolved in a vertical fashion from cyanobacteria like prokaryotes.
