Good afternoon Chegg team,
I would like some help with this question. 4
Please note: only state the answer.
How does the urbanization (paving, channelizing, straightening etc.) affect the magnitude of both, RUNOFF and INFILTRATION, in a moderately-sized, previously forested drainage basin?
Both will decrease.
Runoff decreases; Infiltration increases
Runoff increases; Infiltration decreases
Both will decrease.
There is no affect.

Explanation / Answer
Answer: Runoff increases; Infiltration decreases
When urbanization developed, then there are various barriers to oppose water infiltration into ground but increases run off because we have contracted building above the ground surface and covered with smooth surface than previous forested drainage basin and almost entire ground surface in urbanization covered with impermeable material like cement, concrete etc so infiltartion is decreases.
