2. a. Hurricane Katrina began as a tropical depression near the Bahamanas on August 23. After that it strengthened into tropical storm and was named as tropical storm after it made a landfall near the southern tip of Florida. So the general direction of Katrina is towards west.

b. After passing through warm water of Gulf of Mexico, the hurricane intensify and made its landfall near Louisiana, Mississippi, Katrina move towards north to the Central United States and finally dissippiated near the Great Lakes on August 31 and was absorbed by a cold front. The general direction of Katrina on August 31 is towards north east.

c. When the Katrina pass over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico it intensify rapidly and changed its direction. The low wind shear, warm sea surface temperatures and good upper level outflow was the factor due to which Katrina changed its direction abruptly.

3. The diverging clouds to the west of Florida indicates the calm weather conditions. This can be the eye of the cyclone which is the most calm part of a hurricane.
