Question

PLEASE SHOW ALL WORK!! THANKS!!

As in class, a rational number is defined to be an element of F that has the form a/b, where a and b are integers and b ne 0. Prove that if x and y are rational numbers then x + y and xy are rational numbers. (Use results from the first homework set to justify the familiar formulas for the sum and product.) Prove that if x is rational then -x is rational. Using results from the first homework set, prove that if x and y are non-zero real numbers then (x/y)-1 = y/x. Prove that if x ne 0 is rational then x-1 is rational.
