I have read the Chen et al.,2015 Tree-ring recorded hydroclimatic change in Tienshen mountains during the past 500 years.

a. Actually we date the tree rings because this are related to climate , according to the climate a tree gets the nutrient so during summer and winter season we have the color of these rings changing . these alternate dark and lighter rings are considered to be ayear. thus counting the rings gives idea about the climate of the region. since tree can have rings preserved in the core , the ring is center is considered to be older and the ring in the outer region is the recent times.

therefore the dendrochronology mean study of trees in a scientific method to analyze the climatic and atomspheric condition during that period of time.sometimes carbon dating of these rings are done. since trees present at recent times are not much older period than quaternary so we can date upto these period of time.Thus dating of these trees help in aiding information about the climate .
