1. In what ways is virtue theory fundamentally different from utilitarian and duty theories? Like the utilitarians, Aristotle believed that the purpose of a moral theory is to lead us to happiness, and, like Kant, he believed that the way to the good life is through reason. How does Aristotle differ from the utilitarians regarding the attainment of happiness, and how does he differ from Kant regarding the use of reason? 2. Discuss the issue of environmental ethics in terms of the following arguments: the cathedral, the laboratory, the silo and the gymnasium, as well as the more holistic view of the intrinsic value of the wilderness. What are the differences between these theories? How are these ideas expressed in either Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay "Nature" or Aldo Leopold's "The Land Ethic?

Explanation / Answer

1) virtue ethics or the virtue theory is an approach to the ethics that emphasizes the individual character as the key element of the ethical thinking rather than rules about the act themselves or their consequences.it make us enable to think with freedom without lossing the moral values of ethics and the traditions. in the virtue of fundamentality, the thinking procedure is the important point on the other hand if we talk about the utilitarian then it is the theory which have the believed that the purpose of the morality and the ethics which bring happiness to us. thus vurtue theory differ as it is the way of act and thought while utilitarian is the happiness given by doing moral and ethical acts. according to Aristotle, he differ utilatarian as it is the normative ethics or the ethis that defines the morality of the actions on the other hand Aristotle believe that the greatest happiness principle state that a moral actions is one that maximize the utility or happiness for the greatest number of people.

2) if we take it as a general vision of the ethical value regarding the environemtn than we can see or find this that the people of the modern world is more concern with their own profit and they don't bother what is happening with the environment or what will it lead to. they just find the happiness in their own gain and they dont have the ethics and the moral values regarding the environment concern.

they are consuming as much as they can to get maximum profit from the environment but they dont even think that they belong to environment and not the environement belon to them. they are not supreme to all. moreover according to the theories of the ethics, it is more important to have the moral value and ethics to generate the happiness and materialistc gain are just the external but not internal. the ethics are internal and self generated. this is what the difference between the ethics and the nature. here we can consider nature as human mental view point and thoughts and land of ethics are the moral and the ethical values.
