Question
Dear Chegg Expert,
Can you help me break down this chart in sentence format in regards to which groups made the most or least change etc. I know these numbers will be wrong but what I am looking for is something like amongst the low action score, the people in the told intervention drank more (x amount of drinks) or less (x amount of drinks) than those told in the waiting list at the end of 4 weeks. I am trying to interpret the chart but I know my math is off because the way I am reading this is that people that were told they were in the told interventin group drank 7.8 less drinks a week after the 4 weeks and people in the told waiting list drank 9.2 drinks less a week after 4 weeks but I know this is not correct. I would also like to compare the differences between the low action and high action scores within the subgroups. My calucations that I know are wrong, may have something to do with the number of people in each of those groups.
What would be helpful is if you could take the typical weekly drinking and break it down as to the changes between baseline and the 4-week result with the sub-group for each of the 4 outcomes so I can understand which groups made improvement more than the others. I think if I see how you make the comparison across one section (typical weekly drinking, highest number on one occation, or the Audit-C score, I can apply the concept to the other categories, hopefully.....
Thanks in advance,
Shani
Explanation / Answer
Since asked to break down the given chart into sentences,
Consider first, low action score
Given,
the total number of members for total intervention is given to be 36 and the number of members told in waiting list is 40. it means that the members for total intervention are more than that of members told for waiting.
now let's move to the next step,
for told intervention,
for typically weekly drinking
given mean = 32.8 and standard deviation = 17.7 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 25 and standard deviation = 17.7
here the standard deviation is same. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
for told waiting,
for typically weekly drinking
given mean = 33.4 and standard deviation = 20.2 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 24.4 and standard deviation = 17.7
here the standard deviation is same. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
Consider first, high action score
Given,
the total number of members for total intervention is given to be 40 and the number of members told in waiting list is 33. it means that the members for total intervention are more than that of members told for waiting.
now let's move to the next step,
for total intervention,
for typically weekly drinking
given mean = 32.6 and standard deviation = 16.8 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 14.5 and standard deviation = 9.8
here the standard deviation for 4 weeks is half the standard deviation for baseline.
for told waiting,
for typically weekly drinking
given mean = 35.5 and standard deviation = 25.3 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 21.4 and standard deviation = 15.5
here the standard deviation difference is almost 5. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
Highest number on one occasion
given mean = 12.9 and standard deviation = 5.7 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 8.6 and standard deviation = 4.5
here the standard deviation is almost same. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
for told waiting,
for highest number on one occasion,
given mean = 14.1 and standard deviation = 8.4 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 8.5. and standard deviation = 5.4
here the standard deviation difference is almost 3. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
Consider first, high action score
Given,
the total number of members for total intervention is given to be 40 and the number of members told in waiting list is 33. it means that the members for total intervention are more than that of members told for waiting.
now let's move to the next step,
for total intervention,
for typically weekly drinking
given mean = 15.3 and standard deviation = 5.8 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 7.6 and standard deviation = 5.3
here the standard deviation for 4 weeks is almost same as the standard deviation for baseline.
for told waiting,
for highest number of one occasion,
given mean = 14.1 and standard deviation = 8.4 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 8.9 and standard deviation = 6.3
here the standard deviation difference is almost 2. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
Audit C-score
given mean = 8.9 and standard deviation = 1.7 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 6.9 and standard deviation = 2.5
here the standard deviation is almost same. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
for told waiting,
for audit c-score
given mean = 8.8 and standard deviation = 2.3 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 7.1. and standard deviation = 2.7
here the standard deviation difference is almost 0.4. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
Consider first, high action score
Given,
the total number of members for total intervention is given to be 40 and the number of members told in waiting list is 33. it means that the members for total intervention are more than that of members told for waiting.
now let's move to the next step,
for total intervention,
for audit c score
given mean = 9.2 and standard deviation = 1.8 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 5.7 and standard deviation = 3
here the standard deviation for 4 weeks is almost same as the standard deviation for baseline.
for told waiting,
for highest number of one occasion,
given mean = 9 and standard deviation = 2 for the baseline only.
and for 4 weeks, the given mean = 6.1 and standard deviation = 2.4
here the standard deviation difference is almost 0.4. defines for both baseline and 4 weeks, expresses the value that is: the total number of the group differs from the mean value of the group.
