Question
Which of the following statements regarding terrestrial biomes is INCORRECT?
A. Climate extremes (e.g. droughts, subfreezing temperatures) can be important predictors of terrestrial plant and animal distributions
B. Average annual temperature and precipitation are the largest predictors of the distribution of these biomes across the planet
C. Changes in biological communities across a montane region due to elevation changes are similar to the transition from grassland to tundra due to latitudinal changes
D. The tundra and the alpine zone of montanes have similar physical environments, which explains why the dominant plant species found within them are morphologically similar
E. These biomes are characterized by the dominant vegetative growth forms because plants are good indicators of the physical environment in an area
Explanation / Answer
Biomes are a wide area on the earth which has similar condition means similar climates and living organisms. In terrestrial biomes has important factiors are temperature and precipitation. The tundra and grassland area has not similar climate, environmental condition. Soil of tundra are less fertile then grassland because the tundra has permafrost or permanentaly frozen soil is usually present. In grassland productivity totally depends on precipitation. higher precipitation develop tall grasses but less precipitaion small grsses. Wildlife of tundra and grassland has totally different large terrestrial animals lived in grassland not in tundra. temperature condition of tundra and grassland are different and precipitation condition also different. So we can say that the option C is incorrect regarding terrestrial biomes.
