Question
List and describe one process for each of the following sources that could be eroding the beach.
? onshore, naturally occurring on land or around the shoreline
? offshore, naturally occurring out at sea, away from the shoreline
? anthropogenic, influenced or altered by people
Read about beach renourishment on the Florida Departement of Environmental Protection website. How much does a beach renourishment cost? In your opinion, is beach renourishment effective in decreasing beach erosion and worth the investment? Explain your reasoning.
Explanation / Answer
ANSWER-
the shoreline is affected by waves(produced by wind at sea) and tides(produced by gravitational effect of moon and sun).Onshore process generally includes the action of tides that drifts the coastal areas. There are two high tides and two intervening low tides per day.offshore generally includes the action of waves and tides that breaks into shores.wind driven waves are a primary source of coastal erosion.ocean current also play an important role both offshore and onshore in causing erosion. Also, a steeply sloping shore will cause the waves to break closer to shore ,causing more erosion than on a gently sloping surface.
anthropogenic causes involves problems such as intervening in the transport processes along coastlines and causig reductions in the sand supply. Also coastal structures interfering with the littoral transport also aids in erosion.Trapping of sand seems to be good solution only for locally processes.
