He was told that, when producing Xbar and R charts, data should always be selected so that a short amount of time goes by within the subgroup, and more time goes by between subgroups. He wanted to try his newly aquired knowledge on one of the filling machines in your wine bottling facility. This filling machine has 4 "heads", so 4 wine bottles are filled at the same time. Your boss felt that these 4 bottles would be the best "subgroup" since all 4 bottles were filled at the same time. The characteristic of interest is the quantity of wine placed into the bottles.
