Probability that the student is female = p = 15/100 = 0.15 =

q = 1-p = 1-0.15 = 0.85

Sample size n= 20

This is a binomial distribution problem

Probability that r students out of twenty selected are female is given by = nCr * p^r * q^(n-r)

a) Probability that exactly 4 female students are there in the sample

P(r=4) = 20C4 * (0.15^4) * (0.85^16)

= 0.1821

b) sample has no female student

P(r = 0) = 20C0 * (0.15^0) * ( 0.85^20)

= 0.0387

c) sample contain exactly twenty female student

P(r=20) = 20C20 * (0.15^20) * (0.85^0)

= 3.325 * 10^-17

Using the above formula we will calculate the probability for each value of r to make our solution easy

= P(10) +P(11)+ P(12) +...................+P(20)

from the above table we can add the required probability

e) Fewer tan five students

= P(4) + P(3) + P(2) + P(1) + P(0)

= 0.1821 + 0.2428 + 0.2293 + 0.1367 + 0.0387

= 0.8298

f) Expected number of female student

= summation (r.P(r))

= 0*P(0) + 1*P(1) + 2*P(2) + 3*P(3) +.................+ 19*P(19) + 20*P(20) = 3
