Question
7. (4 marks). I am a firm believer in sketching things on tests. I think that sometimes the sketch can help remind you what you have to do next, or correctly guide your thought process. In this course, I firmly believe that making a sketch of a normal distribution can help you obtain correct probabilities. On my my TA's for a previous Statistics course gathered sample data from marked tests to determine if sketching had an influence grades. For each student in the class, we recorded whether or not they sketched distributions, and also recorded whether or not they obtained the correct p-value. The results were as follows: sketch no sketch correct 53 28 incorrect 32 63 (a) If I were to select one student at random from the class, what is the probability that they got the question correct?
Explanation / Answer
Solution:-
The probability that they got the question correct is 0.4602.
Total number of questions = 53 + 32 + 63 + 28 = 176
Number of correct questions = 81
The probability that they got the question correct = 81/176
The probability that they got the question correct = 0.4602
