a) cyclonic b) anticyclonic
4-The wind chill factor combines which two conditions of the atmosphere?
a) temperature and pressure b) temperature and air flow c) temperature and humidity d) temperature and density
Explanation / Answer
Answers
1. In an anticyclonic air pressure cell, the air high above center of the cell moves in the downward direction.
Explanation-
The area with high pressure is called anticyclone in which wind of high-pressure swirls in opposite direction, the air descends downward from the upper atmosphere. Air from higher in the atmosphere moves down to fill the space left as the air blew outward.
2. C) air temperature.
Explanation-
Two main kinds of weather fronts are:- cold front and warm front.
Cold front-This front is formed when a cold air mass replaces a warm air mass by advancing into it or that the warm air mass retreats and cold air mass advances, the Cold front moves up to twice as quickly as warm fronts.
Warm front- It is a sloping frontal surface along which active movement of warm air over cold air takes place.
The main cause of movement in both the cases is air temperature difference.
3. Tornadoes and hurricanes are most of the time cyclonic.
Explanation-
Tornadoes and Hurricanes are characterized by extremely strong horizontal winds swirling around the center, strong upward motion dominating the circulation with some downward movement in the center. Although on rare occasions "anticyclonic" tornadoes spinning in the opposite direction do occur.
4. c) temperature and humidity.
Explanation-
Windchill is a measure of how cold people and animals feel based on heat loss due to wind and evaporation. In cold and windy weather conditions, the skin loses heat through evaporation much more quickly than if the wind were not blowing. The wind chill for warmer temperatures is the heat index humidity is a major factor.
