4 (3 points) Your friends (and fellow researchers) are curious. Does race have any effect on education level? hs or lower college grad sum 299 115 black asian other 26 9 197 53 22 11 86 12 9 146 sum1439 359 144 1912 162 125 white black asian other hs or lower college grad 0.73 0.20 0.08 0.82 0.13 0.05 0.62 0.26 0.13 0.86 0.08 0.06 Pearson's Chi-squared test X-squared-27.47,ds 6, p-value 0.0001179 (a) (3 points) What is the expected value of black and grade? (b) (3 points) What is the expected value of white hs or lower? (c) (3 points) What is the proper type of chi-squared test to test this hypothesis? Explain why. (d) (3 points) What is the conclusion from the hypothesis test? Explain in context (e) (3 points) What is a Type I error in this context? 5. (3 points) A researcher recently did a study of 5534 randomly selected married women. The researcher asked the age at which they married. The mean was 23.4 and the standard deviation was 4.7 Do you have all the necessary information to perform a test ou whether the average age of marrage was greater than 187 If so, perform the test and do all necessary calculations. Use CoCale to caleulate the P-value. 6. (3 points) What is the criteria commonly used to determine if a value is unusual? 7, (3 points) Find the critical value for a 85% confidence interval for a mean if the sample size is 35. 8 (3 points) What about if the sample size if 12? 9. (3 points) What is a pooled proportion? Why is it used? 10. (3 points) What is a P-value? Explain it's relation to data and the eitill hypot hesis 11. (3 points) What is a paired test and how is it different from a 2-sample test for means? / 60 pts P5. 2

Explanation / Answer

4a) Expected value of black and grad = E(9)= 144*197/1942= 14.6076

4b) Epected value of white hs or lower =E(1099)= 1439*1513/1942= 1121.1159

4c) The proper chi squared test here is chi square test for independece of attributes.

4d) NULL HPOTHESIS H0: RACE HAVE EFFECT ON EDCATION LEVEL

ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESIS HA: RACE DO NOT HAVE EFFECT ON EDUCATION LEVEL

Since P value is 0.0001179 which isvery small . Suppose we assumed level of significance 0.01. Since P value is smaller than 0.01 which is therefore significant and reject null hypothesis.

e) Type I error is false rejecting of null hypothesis when it is true. Here in above werejected null hypothesis at 0.01 level of significance (We assumed it ) . If we test the hypothesis by using chi square test of independence there may be a chance that the above null hypotheis is true.
