Question
Hello,
I am working on a proposed replication study for a graduate level research class and I am having trouble determining which statistical tests I need to use to test the hypothesis. My proposed study has one dependent variable, sleep quality, and three independent variables - aromatherapy, massage, and aromatherapy massage. The hypothesis is that aromatherapy massage will have a greater effect on sleep quality than aromatherapy on its own and massage on its own. The study I am proposing a replication for only looked at the effect on aromatherapy massage on sleep quality.
The old study used the "??-test, Chi- square test, Fisher’s exact test, paired ??-test, and Wilcox signed rank test, and generalized estimating equations (GEE)" to test the hypothesis and in my replication study I have said that that is too many tests and could result in a type one error. In my proposed study I am going to use the ANOVA test, the paired t-test, and the independent sample t-test, but I can't tell if they are appropriate or not. Do you think that those tests are appropriate to determine if aromatherapy massage has more of an effect than aromatherapy or massage on its own? If not, what kind of test would be best?
Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
A sample is that group of people who are representing the entire population and participating in the study. Samples are expected to represent an entire population.
