Question

NAME MAT 102 DAH Test#3 Form A d) What is the relationship between the confidence interval width and the margin of error? e) would it be reasonable for someone to state that 69% of NYS community college cell phone users play games on their cell phones? You must explain your answer to receive credit. 6) The name of theorem that states: For any population, regardless of the shape of the population being randomly sampled, the sampling distribution of the mean can be reasonably approximated by a normal distribution whenever the sample size n is greater than 30 Is: 7) The Speedy Oil Change Company advertises that the average mean time it takes to change a customer's oil is 30 minutes. After receiving complaints from dissatisfied customers, the management at Speedy Oil Change headquarters hired a researcher to investigate the complaints to determine if the oil change took significantly longer than 30

Explanation / Answer

d) We know that Confidence Interval is given by-

CI for the population mean for instance is given by sample mean +- MoE

where MoE is the Margin of Error

It is given by, MoE = Z*s/sqrt(n) where n is the sample size, s is the sample standard deviation and Z is the value corresponding to the confidence level from the normal distribution

So, as MoE increases/decreases, the CI width also increases/decreases

as the width of the CI is nothing but 2*MoE

So, they are directly proportional

e) Yes. It can be said that 69 percent of NYS cell phone users play games on their phones

This is the proportion of the students in NYS who play games on their phones

Another way of putting it is, p=0.69

6) This is the "Central Limit Theorem" which primary talks about the sample size

For, n>30, irrespective of underlying distribution, we can approximate it to normal
