Question
Small scale weather patters can form by winds and Coriolis that have differences in pressure in their center compared to their outer ring. A low pressure center is called a cyclone and a high pressure center is called an anti-cyclone. For (A1) to (D1), choose "cyclone" or "anticyclone" For (A2) to (D2), choose the correct wind field and direction of rotation For (A3) to (D3), choose "converging center" or "diverging center" Northern Hemisphere Southern Hemisphere (A1) (A2) (I (A3) (C1) C3 (B1) L (B2) C H (B3) H(D1) (D2) (D3)Explanation / Answer
A1) cyclone
B1) anticyclone
C1) anticyclone
D1) cyclone
A2) figure 1
B2) figure 2
C2) figure 5
D2) figure 8
A3) converging center
B3)diverging center
C3) diverging center
D3) converging center
NORTHERN HEMISPHERE
a cyclone in northern hemisphere will have low pressure at the center. so the air flows inward(converge), in an anticyclone high pressure is at the center so air flows outward(diverge), but the rightward coriolis force affect the flow and makes the cyclone to rotate anticlock wise and anticyclone in the clockwise direction.
SOUTHERN HEMISPHEREl
low and high pressure regions at the centers are same as in northern hemisphere for both cyclone and anticyclone but, here the coriolis force is leftward so the cyclone spin in clockwise direction and anticyclone in anticlockwise direction.
