1) Deposition

Because of the continental margins and subducting plates

2) Erosion

transform fault boundary with large waves due to vast interrupted ocean expanse

Explanation / Answer

The East Coast of U.S. is dominated by deposition because rivers contribute a large amount of sediment into the shore environment. The extra sediment rivers deposit into the beach area replenishes sediment moved offshore by wave currents.

The western U.S. coastline has more erosional features due to rocky shorelines that are exposed to high energy waves and supply of relatively little sediment to the adjacent shore. Rocky shorelines is the result of plate tectonic boundaries, which uplift landscapes, creating mountains or cliffs against the shoreline, which causes the ocean to erode into hard rock which is carried away. Eroded coastlines typically form where sediment input is limited by cliffs, rock outcrop, or mountains abutting the beach environment.
