My professor is asking me how do I determine the contact lines on geologic map 2(bottom) derived from geologic map 1(top). Why these contact lines are straight not curved. I really have no idea why. Can someone explain this to me? Thank you.

In map 2 the contact lines are between igneous rock and rock layer where red river is located. Shale and rock layer with red river. Sandstone and rock layer with red river. Shale and igneous rock. Contact lines are shown in geology where two layers meet together. They are not curved because the line between rocks are faults and it occurs in a linear fashion. The angular unconformity is shown in plan as a straight line, but in section it may be irregular.
