Explanation / Answer
f) Explosive volcanic eruptions occur when violently escaping gases evolve suddenly to drop the magma density and propel molten magma from the chamber.
the characteristics of volcanoes that shows how it would behave are its viscocity and amounts of gases present. as the gases wants to escape through the vents of the volcano into the atmosphere but the sticky character of the magma or its high viscocity dont really allow the gases to escape and blocks it natural path, so with time its expands and build up huge pressure and suddenly the gas bubbles burst into the air producing violent volcanic eruptions.
g) The principal causes of mechanical fragmentation of rocks in place are biologic activity, expansion from unloading, frost wedging.
mechanical fragmentation is due to the pressure on and off the rock , the rocks are under tremendous force and pressure and when suddenly the pressure is reduced or completly taken off the mass resting upon it is wiped off by erosion and thus the rocks expands which further allow the seperation of plates and fragmentation at some point of time. while on other hand the frost wedging also causes fragmentation when water inside the rock freezes and as we all know from the anomalous expansion of water" it expands when it freezes instead of contracting.
so along with the water expansion rock also fragments.
h) The three major processes involved in chemical weathering are dissolution, hydrolysis, and oxidation.
i) the ecological action of glaciers includes erosion , transportation and deposition so by the option its obvious that its direct geologic effect of glaciers would be to erode the continental landscape and to transport and deposit sediments.
k) the sedimentary materials outwash and till best describes the term glacial drift.
l) rock flour deposited directly from advancing ice.
m) the Great Lakes and Lake Agassiz.
