I WANT TO EDIT THE QUESTION TO GIVE MORE POINTS BUT IT'S NOT COMING UP OR I CAN'T SEE IT.

CAN ANYONE HELP?

Questions: 1. Biologists have noticed that the chirping rate of crickets of a certain species is related to temperature, and the relationship appears to be very nearly linear. A cricket produces 113 chirps per minute at 21 degree C and 173 chirps per minute at 27 degree C. (a) Find a linear equation that models the temperature T as a function of the number of chirps per minute N. (h) What is the slope of the graph and what does it represent ? (e) What is the T-intercept of the graph and what does it represent? (d) If the crickets are chirping at 150 chirps per minute, estimate the temperature. 2. Consider the piecewise function f(x) = (a) Sketch a graph of f. (b) State the domain and range of f. (c) Does f have an inverse? If not, explain why, otherwise if so then sketch the inverse function f^-1 3. Find the domain of the function g(t) =3/root t^2-7t 4. Is the function given by f(x) = (x-5)(x + 5)x even or odd or neither? Please justify your reasoning.

Explanation / Answer

1) a) slope: (173-113) / (27-21) =
60 / 6 =
10

b)y=mx+b : m=10, pick any of the two points for x,y

113=10(21)+b

113-210=b

b=-97

so we have equation y= 10x-97 or N = 10T-97

c)T intercepts   means x intercepts   for this we will plug   N=0 and solve for T   we will get

0=10T-97

T = 9.7   so T intercepts   ( 9.7, 0) it means no chirping   at temperature   = 9.7 degree celcius

d) if   N= 150 we have to solve for T

150 = 10T-97

247 =10T

T = 24.7 degrees celcius

3) as we know that sqrt( t^2-7t) >0

t^2-7t>0

t(t-7)>0

so we   have domain   ( -inf, 0) U ( 7, inf)

4) f(x) = x^2 -25

f(-x) = (-x)^2 -25   = x^2 -25   no change in function it means Even function
