Question

Due: 8 February 2018 in Figure 1, which line represents The Circle of inuminationA The Plane of Ecligtic The Polar Axis Figure 1 2. Figure 2 shows three equal amounts of solar radiation (A, B, and C) hitting the Earth at different latitudes. Figure 2 a) Which solar energy packet (A, B, or C) travels through the reflecting atmosphere? Ereatest amount of scattering, absorbing, and b) Give two (2) reasons why a square meter of land will receive more energy at F, than D 1) 2) c) Figure 2 represents an equinox position. In one day, how many hours of sunlight will be received at: A hrs. B hrs. C hrs. 3. What is the angle measured from the Earth's axis to the Plane of Ecliptic? degrees 4. The Earth is farthest from the sun on July 4th. What is the name for this?

Explanation / Answer

2.A) C having greatest amount of Scattering, absorption, reflection because longer distance travel through atmosphere when compared to A and B. Solar radiation are mostly reflected and absorped in the atmosphere because of longer distance travel having more albedo's and other particles like dust. A having direct hit of sunlight but atmospheric travel is very less. because solar radiation first reaches the atmosphere and there itself it absorbed or reflected.

B) F is in polar region and also no direct hit of solar radiation when compared to D but recieve more energy because based on atmospheric energy balance cycle, Surplus energy which received in D is travelled to F due to atmospheric circulation that causes the F to recieve more energy. if atmospheric circulation is not there then D becomes hotter and hotter.

C) During Equinox A having 12 hours of daytime and B having more than 12 hours of daytime, C having around 23 hours of time.

3. 23.5 Degrees because of earth spin axis tilted with respect to palne of earth solar orbit.

4. Aphelion, during this day earth is far away from sun and it is approximately 94,505901 miles away from sun.
