Question
What is the easiest way to determine the limits of integration when using disk, washer, or shell method? Both my textbook and the video tutorials I'm watching just seem to gloss over that part. Once I heard someone say to set the function equal to 0 and solve for x or y. And then I'm like, "Which function? The problem mentions two or three functions." Then I heard to set the functions equal to each other and solve for x or y. Is there a straightforward rule I can follow? Also, I'm not allowed to use a calculator.
Explanation / Answer
If we are given two functions in two variables (say x & y),then we need to solve these functions together for x & y by finding the value of x from 1st function & then putting this in 2nd function which converts the 2nd function in y alone, then putting it equal to 0. After getting the value of y put this in 1st function to get the value of x .
