Describe the watershed systems studied by the principal researchers?

How does modeling play a role in understanding these watershed systems?

What do the scientists researching the various watersheds do with the hydrological models they develop?

Describe the importance of the riparian zone to the watershed as a whole.

Why is the process of evapotranspiration important to the understanding of the hydrological cycle in a region?

How do various chemicals identified as pollutants impact the overall aquifer?

Using the karst topography of central Florida as an example, describe the relationship of geology to the watershed.

8. How do you balance agricultural needs with human water use needs?

Explanation / Answer

Watershed is the portion of land that forms the drainage system for a steam or river, this collect the surface water from the land within any topographic boundaries such as hills, valleys, mountains and other landscape. They are characterized by the mouth of the flow of water to which other points joins and flows in the watershed. Some amount of water will flow on the ground in the form of streams or river and some can flow in the sub surface in the form of groundwater. With the water flowing on the ground can interact with the natural hydrological cycle and can take part in the transportation of the valuable nutrients in the dissolve state. Water shade also help in maintaining an healthy bio diversity in the ecosystem.

Modeling in the watershed can help in the following ways-

1. It can help us to gain an better understanding of the dynamics of the watershed system.

2. It can aid in evaluating the effect of various parameter such as precipitation, climate etc.

3. it can also help in predict the other measurable climatic characteristics.

Riparian zones are the ares adjacent to the river bodies or other water bodies this mainly includes floodplains and this act as the buffer for the groundwater and this area is saturated by the ground water they are also known as wet land.

Evapotranspiration is very important in the water cycle because the plant in any area use to loose the water in the atmosphere by the means of the transpiration which goes in the atmosphere and lead to the development of the cloud which comes down in the form of precipitation when the clouds gets saturated with moisture this is how evapotranspiration is useful.
